The Family Support Organization of Union County is pleased to welcome our new Youth Partnership (YP) Coach, Ms. Bernice Hightower!
Bernice is returning to the position of YP Coach, which she held as a volunteer in the spring of 2016 at the age of 14! Bernice is currently a senior at The Lawrenceville School, a co-educational preparatory school in Lawrenceville, NJ, where she has served as the President of both the Black Women at Lawrenceville Club and her dorm, Stephens Hall.
A gifted speaker and poet, Bernice became a state finalist at the poetry recitation competition, Poetry Out Loud.
Her interests outside of school include voter advocacy. Bernice twice participated in the Encampment for Citizenship’s summer program, and she has also spoken at two Black Lives Matter rallies on the importance of voting. Bernice and her friends recently organized a march for Maurice Gordon, a man killed by a New Jersey State trooper during a traffic stop on the Parkway.
Going forward, Bernice is planning on attending college next fall. So far, she has been accepted both at Howard University in Washington, DC and Drew University
in Madison, NJ. Bernice will add a dynamic voice and point of view to the Union County Youth Partnership program, and we anticipate her success in
helping our youth discover their strengths and creative spirit.
